Erin Burnight graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Biology from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. Erin completed predoctoral training in lung and liver gene therapy in the laboratory of Dr. Paul McCray at the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree from the Genetics Interdisciplinary PhD Program. She completed postdoctoral training with Dr. Tucker where she contributed to the development of viral vectors for therapeutic gene transfer to patient-derived differentiated retinal cell cultures and subsequent transplantation and phenotype correction in retinal degenerative animal models. She currently focuses on vector development for gene editing and gene augmentation therapy to treat inherited blinding diseases.
